The Diaspora Affairs Office of the President, on behalf of the Ministry of the Interior, has officially opened the citizenship application process for Ghanaians living abroad.
The move provides an opportunity for eligible diaspora applicants to formally acquire Ghanaian citizenship.
According to the Ministry, interested applicants must be at least 18 years old and meet a series of documentation requirements.
These include a completed application form, birth certificate, valid passport, proof of legal residence of at least two years, police clearance and criminal record certificates from both the applicant’s home country and Ghana, evidence of strong ties to Ghana, and DNA proof supporting Ghanaian descent.
Applicants are also required to pay a citizenship application fee of GH₵25,000 and an administrative processing fee of GH₵1,500.
Submissions will be accepted in person at the World Trade Centre in Accra from 2nd to 6th February 2026, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM daily. Shortlisted applicants will be expected to complete additional online forms and attend a citizenship orientation program before final approval.
The swearing-in and citizenship conferment ceremony is scheduled for March 2026 under the authority of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana.
The Ministry has advised applicants to carefully review all eligibility criteria and prepare the necessary documents in advance, noting that all fees are non-refundable.
