The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has confirmed the tragic deaths of three recruits during a scheduled endurance training exercise at the Defence Forces Recruits Training School (DFRTS) in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, on 29th January 2026.
The recruits developed medical complications while participating in the routine endurance activity. On-site medical personnel provided immediate assistance before evacuating the affected recruits to Eldoret Regional Hospital for advanced care. Despite the efforts of the medical teams, the recruits were pronounced dead.
The next of kin have been formally notified, and the KDF is providing support and assistance to the affected families.
The military extended its deepest condolences to the families, fellow recruits, and colleagues of the deceased.
A thorough investigation has been launched in line with established military procedures to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The findings will inform any measures needed to strengthen safety and welfare for personnel undergoing training.
The Kenya Defence Forces reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and care for all its personnel.
