A delegation from TikTok, led by Tokunbo Ibrahim, Government Relations and Public Policy Lead for West Africa, has paid a courtesy visit to Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, in Accra. The visit aimed to congratulate the Minister on his recent appointment and explore areas for strategic collaboration in Ghana’s fast-evolving digital space.
During the engagement, Ms. Ibrahim highlighted TikTok’s ongoing efforts to make the platform both educational and safe for its users. She shared updates on the launch of TikTok’s STEM feed—a curated stream featuring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics content designed to inspire and educate young audiences.
“Given your leadership in advancing digital inclusion, online safety, and youth empowerment, we are looking forward to seeing how the digital economy will continue to grow under your direction,” said Ms. Ibrahim.
She reiterated TikTok’s zero-tolerance approach to harmful misinformation and expressed the platform’s willingness to work closely with the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) to promote digital integrity across Ghana.
The Minister, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, welcomed the team warmly and stressed the need for stronger child protection measures online. He urged TikTok to enforce age-related content filters and build a safer digital environment for Ghana’s youth.
The Minister also expressed interest in TikTok’s algorithmic structures and praised the educational potential of the STEM feed.
“We will work with you to see how to drive content on the One Million Coders Program to help Ghanaians use the app to learn and also pick classes,” Hon. Nartey George stated.
Looking ahead, the Minister called for specialized training camps for bloggers and content creators to unlock economic opportunities in Ghana’s creative space. He further emphasized the importance of a robust framework to tackle misinformation, hate speech, and harmful content.
> “TikTok must consider setting up a content consideration team committed to ensuring the sanctity of the people,” the Minister urged.
The meeting reflects growing interest in leveraging global platforms like TikTok to promote local education, innovation, and responsible digital citizenship.
