Access to clean drinking water remains a pressing issue in various parts of Ghana, and the Volta region is no exception. Numerous remote villages in this region, such as Ayitikope, Tornu, Gborkope, Azagunorkope, Vokpoe, and Melenu, face the challenge of lacking a reliable source of clean drinking water. Unlike areas connected to the national distribution network from Kpong in the Eastern region, these villages have been grappling with this issue for decades.

The primary sources of water for these communities are mini dams and streams, which are often shared with nearby cattle ranches. Consequently, the availability of clean water is limited, and villagers can only rely on consistent rainfall for a brief period of three months. Once the rainy season ends, accessing clean water becomes an arduous struggle. In some cases, community members are forced to undertake a minimum two-hour trek to obtain gallons of water, which is insufficient to sustain them for even a week.

The repercussions of this water scarcity issue are far-reaching. Many villagers are compelled to migrate to urban areas in search of better opportunities, despite lacking the necessary qualifications for well-paid jobs. Consequently, they find themselves engaging in unfavorable means of livelihood to make ends meet.

Moreover, the health risks associated with consuming water from these contaminated sources are increasing. This situation demands a permanent intervention to address the pressing need for clean drinking water in these communities.

ABOUT SCHOOLS SUPPORT PROJECT – CLEAN WATER INITIATIVE

Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, yet many remote and deprived villages around the world still lack this essential resource. In an effort to address this issue, Jonilar.net has launched the Clean Water Initiative under the Schools Support Project. This intervention aims to provide clean water to these underserved communities, enabling them to carry out daily activities and improve their overall well-being.

The initiative, led by Jonilar.net, has already made a significant impact by providing beneficiaries with gallons of water, buckets, and filters. These provisions have allowed individuals and families to access clean water for various domestic activities, including drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene. However, the ultimate goal is to further enhance water accessibility by implementing mechanized boreholes in these areas.

Mechanized boreholes are an effective and sustainable solution to provide a continuous supply of clean water to communities. By drilling deep into the earth’s surface, these boreholes tap into underground water sources, ensuring a reliable water supply even during dry seasons. This technology significantly reduces the burden on community members who often have to travel long distances in search of clean water.

However, implementing mechanized boreholes requires substantial financial resources and support from various stakeholders. Jonilar.net is actively seeking assistance from individuals, organizations, and government agencies to help realize this vision of providing sustainable access to clean water in remote villages.

Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of these communities. Here’s how you can contribute:

1. Financial Contributions: Donations of any amount are crucial to fund the installation of mechanized boreholes. These contributions will cover drilling costs, equipment, maintenance, and training for local communities to manage and maintain the water systems effectively.

2. Partnerships: Jonilar.net welcomes partnerships with organizations, companies, and NGOs that share a similar vision and have the expertise to contribute to the implementation and management of water projects. Collaborative efforts can maximize the impact and reach of the initiative.

3. Volunteer and Awareness Campaigns: You can volunteer your time and skills to support the Clean Water Initiative. Organize awareness campaigns in your community, school, or workplace to raise awareness about the importance of clean water and the ongoing efforts to provide it to underserved communities.

4. In-Kind Donations: In addition to financial contributions, donations of water-related equipment, water filters, water treatment chemicals, and other necessary supplies can greatly support the initiative’s implementation and sustainability.

Every contribution, big or small, brings us closer to the goal of providing clean water to these deprived and remote villages. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals and help improve their health, education, and overall well-being.
