Gov’t Reaffirms Commitment to Diaspora Engagement to Boost Year-Round Tourism

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora as part of efforts to promote tourism beyond seasonal peaks.

She made this known when members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority paid a courtesy call on her at the Ministry while in Ghana for their 118th Founder’s Day celebrations.

The Minister emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration with diaspora groups, noting that such partnerships play a critical role in driving tourism, culture, and creative arts development throughout the year. She assured the delegation that proposed activities would be reviewed for possible support and involvement by the Ministry and its allied agencies.

According to her, further engagements will be held to deepen stakeholder participation and expand opportunities for diaspora-led initiatives that align with government’s tourism development agenda.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Diallo Sumbry of The Adinkra Group disclosed that about 500 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority are currently in Ghana for the celebrations. He highlighted the diaspora’s strong capacity to mobilise resources and people in support of tourism, culture, and creative arts initiatives.

Mr. Sumbry noted that several culturally significant periods across the year present opportunities to position Ghana as a year-round tourism destination, rather than focusing largely on the December festive season.

Both parties expressed optimism about strengthening partnerships to boost tourism and deepen cultural engagement beyond December.
