Education Minister Inaugurates Governing Board of Ghana Scholarships Authority to Strengthen Scholarship Administration

The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has inaugurated the Governing Board of the Ghana Scholarships Authority (GSA) under Act 1149, approved by President John Dramani Mahama, in a major step toward reforming scholarship administration in Ghana.

Minister Iddrisu stressed that scholarship awards in Ghana must no longer be influenced by individual discretion, nepotism, or partisan considerations. The responsibility now lies with the Authority to ensure fairness, equity, and national development in awarding scholarships.

He highlighted that the new scholarship framework will focus on merit, genuine need, beneficiary categories, and national development priorities, while urging the Board to maintain transparency and accountability.

Speaking on behalf of the Board, the Chairperson thanked the President and Minister Iddrisu for the opportunity and pledged a renewed focus on ethical leadership, competence, and strategic investment in Ghanaian youth.

The newly inaugurated GSA Board includes representatives from key sector ministries, the Attorney-General’s Department, the Association of Ghana Industries, the Students Loan Fund, civil society in education, the Authority’s Secretariat, and presidential nominees.
