Berima Amo graces the Year of Return with new single ‘Back in Ghana’

by | Jan 4, 2020 | News

Berima Amo has graced the Year of Return with a new song. The anthemic tune which serves as a clarion call to all in the diaspora to return to the motherland is a worthy addition to your playlist.

Berima Amo the Nkabom band

Berima Amo’s deep longingness to return to his birth home Ghana inspired this Afro-World music jam fittingly-titled ‘Back in Ghana’. This song, as most of his compositions, embodies the sounds of Osibisa, Fela, Hugh Masekela and the smooth brass of Miles Davis. The release of this sentimental tune is perfectly timed for the Year of Return celebrations and I believe it is the best soundtrack to crown it all. The groovy track deeply infused with traditional Agbaja and Adowa sounds begins with the voice over of the black American Economist Dr. Boyce Watkins, describing the awesomeness of Ghana.

With Berima’s emotionally raw vocals steering the course of the song, it is perfectly complemented by the seamless rhythms & harmonics of the Nkabom band. Three members of the Nkabom band have been featured on CNN docuseries titled ”African Voices”.

Berima Amo is a Ghanaian-born Amsterdam-based trumpet player, singer, composer and producer. The multi-instrumentalist, for almost two decades, has toured and graced some of the biggest stages in Europe, South America and Africa. The former John Teye band member was recently featured in a photo exhibition showcasing some of the most influential musicians in Amsterdam.
