Spotless Opens Up on Music, Family, and Ghanaian Influence

Nigerian musician Spotless has shared fresh insights into his artistry, family ties, and cultural inspirations during an exclusive interview with Jonilar.net’s Belinda Bredzei as part of his recent media tour in Ghana. He praised Ghanaian jollof rice, describing it as equally good as Nigerian jollof, and emphasized the culinary similarities that strengthen the bond between the two countries. Spotless also revealed that his latest single, “Deja Vu,” was inspired by a personal love experience that felt strangely familiar, like a love that had existed before.

He confirmed his direct family connection to Nigerian star Tekno, noting they share the same parents, and recalled their early musical journey, starting piano at just five years old. Spotless further addressed long-standing debates around the hit song “Soco,” asserting that he wrote and featured on it, clarifying its origins beyond Wizkid’s involvement.

Speaking on his creative process, Spotless explained that his songwriting is inspired by places, people, and emotions, often emerging while producing beats. He stressed that authenticity and originality remain his compass, refusing to be boxed into a single genre. He also highlighted the importance of adapting to the digital era, urging artists to embrace platforms like TikTok to promote their music effectively.

Spotless debunked the notion that Nigerians don’t enjoy Ghanaian music, citing childhood inspirations from groups like VIP and R2Bees, and praised the originality of Ghana’s sound. Looking ahead, he expressed his desire to collaborate with Ghanaian artists including Shatta Wale, Wendy Shay, and Stonebwoy.

Spotless’s reflections paint the picture of an artist rooted in authenticity, family, and cultural exchange—bridging Nigerian and Ghanaian creativity while embracing the digital future of music.
