Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has revealed that he has received a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) from the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat aimed at strengthening trade and industrial development within the Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone.
According to the MP, the proposed MoU seeks to establish a framework of cooperation between the Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in areas of mutual interest.
The agreement will also define mechanisms for implementing collaborative initiatives to promote trade and economic growth.
Article 2 of the AfCFTA Agreement establishes a single continental market for goods and services across Africa.
Through this framework, member states commit to facilitating the free movement of goods and services, encouraging cross-border investment, expanding intra-African trade, supporting industrial development, and strengthening economic integration among African states.
If finalized, the agreement will transform the Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone into the AfCFTA–Gomoa Central Special Economic Zone, where the continental trade framework will help facilitate trade across Africa while driving industrialisation and investment within the zone.
The announcement follows a meeting between Kwame Asare Obeng and Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the AfCFTA Secretariat.
