The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has clarified misleading reports suggesting that it intends to post staff to Ghanaian embassies abroad to provide driver licensing services.
According to the Authority, some media outlets recently carried headlines implying that Ghanaians living overseas would have access to full DVLA services directly through foreign embassies a claim the Authority says is incorrect.
In reality, the DVLA is partnering with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide selected services, including International Driver’s Permits and Driver’s Licence Renewals, to qualified Ghanaian citizens living abroad.
The initiative will be piloted in the United States, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
Under the program, embassy staff will receive training from the DVLA to verify documents before sending them to the Authority for processing.
Once processed, the documents will be returned to the embassies for collection by applicants. DVLA emphasized that no domestic staff will be stationed at embassies overseas, contrary to some reports.
The Authority said the move is part of its ongoing agenda to bring services closer to Ghanaians, reduce defaults, and promote compliance.
DVLA management also urged the media and the public to seek clarification from its Corporate Affairs Department to avoid misreporting in the future.
