Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, the Akwamuhene, has led tributes on the 40‑day observance of the passing of Ohenenana Nana Samanhyia Darko, describing him as a revered son of Akwamu whose life was devoted to the service of the Akwamu Paramountcy and its people.
In a heartfelt statement, the Akwamuhene said the late Nana Samanhyia Darko’s selfless leadership, wise counsel, and commitment to preserving Akwamu customs and traditions strengthened unity and cultural pride within Akwamuman and across Ghana.
“Ohenenana joined the ancestors, but his legacy lives on in the heritage he protected and the values he upheld,” Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III said, adding that his dedication to the Paramountcy and his people continues to inspire.
Nana Samanhyia Darko was known within the traditional council as a respected figure who played a key advisory role in matters concerning land, customs and the administration of the Akwamu traditional area.
As part of the traditional leadership structure, he worked closely with the Akwamuhene and other elders to support continuity in governance and cultural preservation.
The Akwamu state, historically one of the prominent Akan traditional realms in Ghana, has a rich heritage that includes the Akwamufie Palace, the seat of the Akwamuhene and a legacy of strong leadership among its chiefs. The late Ohenenana’s work contributed to maintaining those time‑honoured traditions.
Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III expressed profound gratitude for Nana Samanhyia Darko’s contributions, saying that his legacy of service and cultural stewardship will be forever cherished by the Akwamu people.
“Da Yie, Ohenenana! Your name and deeds shall forever remain in the sacred memory of Akwamuman,” the Akwamuhene concluded.
