Nana Aba Anamoah Shares Lessons of Raising an Independent Son Amid Her Many Career Phases

Veteran Ghanaian media personality Nana Aba Anamoah, best known as the General Manager of GHOne TV and a respected journalist and TV host, has opened up about raising her son and supporting him through multiple career phases.

In a candid TikTok series, Nana Aba revealed that her son has explored a wide range of interests, from football and rap music to graphic design and IT. “At some point, he wanted to be a footballer, then a rapper.

He even shot a music video, which I financed for him,” she said, stressing that she allowed him to explore his passions freely.

She recounted how she encouraged him to experiment with different fields. When he expressed an interest in graphic design, she welcomed him into her office to observe professionals.

Later, he studied business economics in the United States but eventually realized it wasn’t for him. Nana Aba continued to support his choices, saying, “Whatever you want to do, feel free. Do it. As long as I’m alive and can take care of you.”

Her son later pursued IT and is now completing a master’s degree in artificial intelligence. Nana Aba highlighted the importance of independence in her parenting approach: “I have grounded my son in a way that even if I wasn’t around, he will be fine. He’s very independent.”

The media veteran also shared her personal challenges as a single mother, balancing work and family life while ensuring her son learned responsibility and self-reliance.

She described him as a “very independent boy” who knows how to manage his daily routines and adapt to new environments, such as choosing to attend university in a state where he knew no one, to focus fully on his studies.

Nana Aba’s reflections provide insight into her parenting philosophy: encouraging freedom, responsibility, and independence, even amid uncertainty, while supporting children to follow their passions.
