Freida Yayra Amable Slams Ghanaian Traders for Keeping Prices High Despite Strong Cedi and Growing Economy

Netizen, Freida Yayra Amable has gone viral after bitterly criticizing traders for refusing to lower prices despite a strong economy and the cedi performing well against the dollar.

In a series of TikTok videos, the woman recounted her trip to buy malt in Anloga, where she noticed a confusing price difference. She was offered two types: GHC 170 and GHC 240.

When she asked about the difference, she was told the cheaper one was imported from Nigeria and the more expensive one was made in Ghana — even though the Nigerian product contained more sugar.

“Why is the one made in Ghana more expensive than the one imported from Nigeria?” she asked, expressing disbelief at what she described as unnecessary pricing practices.

The vendor reportedly said, “Ghanaians refuse to reduce prices,” adding that recent changes in the Naira had made Nigerian imports cheaper.

She went on to complain about other rising costs, including service fees at Ecobank and sewing class fees, which had increased from GHC 5,000 to GHC 6,000 in a year.

The woman’s frustration is heightened by the fact that Ghana’s economy is showing signs of improvement, and the cedi has been performing well against the dollar — yet many traders are keeping prices high. “We are just making life harder for ourselves,” she lamented.

Her videos have sparked debates among Ghanaians online about pricing, import policies, and the disconnect between economic performance and local market behavior.
