Martin Kwabena Opare of Ghana, popularly known by the stage name K. Lighte, has a new 2017 single titled ‘Black Dreams ‘ released January 20, 2017. The rapper is a young up and coming performer who’s chosen genre is Hip hop.
K. Lighte tells TheAfricanDream.net that his ‘Black Dreams’ song talks about how some young upcoming artists tend to want all the fame and riches but don’t invest in the needed hustle and hard-work to get to the top of the music industry.
“I am young myself and am speaking from my little experience, it was very tempting to me at the beginning to fall for that trap, I have however come to appreciate the fact that good things don’t come easy. Hard work really does pay, if you remain focused and dedicated” he said.
According to K. Lighte the Ghanaian hip hop and afro pop music scenes are blessed with a lot of promising artists, many of whom, like AJ Nelson and AJ Dahottest, are really pushing hard and doing some dope hustling while dropping awesome beats in their quest to make it big. He says “these are some of the acts I can respect as well other established names in Ghana music like Daddy Lumba and Papa Shee. On the international front, 50 Cent and Akon have been a great influence but my biggest mentor has always been God.”
‘Black Dreams’ is produced by Moxkito. It is off his first mixtape album also titled ‘Black Dreams’. The rapper released a 2016 track off that mixtape which was titled ‘Generational Thinker’. Being the first of 3 boys in his family, the musician started singing at age 8 thanks to his mother. He says of her: “she has a great collection of records I like to describe as the classic old school.” K. Lighte became serious with music during his days at the Accra Academy senior high school in Ghana.
“I am thankful to my family for my education, for sending me to Accra Academy, and for all the wonderful people and experiences I have acquired in my young life. My first single; ’Komole‘, was actually recorded with my friend Blizzy and released in 2013 while I was in school. We did quite well with the piece and the energy from it is what I have built on to evolve ‘Black Dreams’ today.” – K. Lighte.
