The inaugural edition of the Tina festival by Afrobeat icon Fuse ODG ended yesterday at the round pavilion inside the La Trade fair centre in Accra. The event which started after mid-day with an exhibition of local brands ranging from food to fashion saw an encouraging number of patrons in attendance.
During the Kente party later in the evening, patrons were treated to good music and dance amidst the heat inside the pavilion. Uk-based African comedian Eddie Kadi and YFm Ghana’s Kojo Manuel hosted the show which saw amazing performances by Feli Nuna, Lil Shaker, Kojo cue, Medikal, Joey B, Pappy Kojo, Kidi, Kuami Eugene and Sarkodie.
Uk-based artistes, MistaSilva, Eugy, Kwamz and flava Stefflon Don, Lathel Bizzle also came through with love for Tina Festival. Nigerian rock star Dbanj who is also known for taking Afrobeat to the UK with ‘Oliver twist’ years ago pulled a surprise during Fuse ODG’s mind-blowing performances.
Despite the challenges faced, the maiden edition put together by New Africa Nation and their partners was a history. Tina festival among other things is an annual event to celebrate Africa through music and art, revive the hope of Africa, reconnecting with Africans in the diaspora.
The event is also the first major activity in 2019 to mark 400 years of slave trade in Africa through Ghana and a call to Africans in the diaspora to return home (Bra fie) since 2019 is also the ‘year of return’.
Tina festival returns next year with loads of interesting and educative activities for both young and old. Scroll through some amazing moments captured by Kwabana awuku, Phylyx Akakpo, Rob photos here.
