Juapong is a vibrant and growing urban town located in the North Tongu district of the Volta Region. It is also part of the Dorfor traditional area, known for its rich cultural heritage and dynamic community.
The residents of Juapong are predominantly engaged in small-scale businesses, particularly in agriculture and petty enterprises. This entrepreneurial spirit has fostered a community of industrious and innovative individuals.
One of the town’s historical economic pillars is the Volta Star Textiles Limited, formerly known as Juapong Textiles Limited. In its heyday, this factory employed about 40% of the local population and attracted workers from neighboring regions such as Eastern and Greater Accra, as well as from Togo, a French-speaking country located just three hours away.
Juapong is strategically located 4.5 kilometers from the Volta Lake, Ghana’s longest water river, and is home to the iconic Adome Bridge. The picturesque Akuapem-Mampong to Togo mountain range runs through the northern corridor of the town, offering serene and unique views. The recently constructed Tema to Mpakadan railway further enhances Juapong’s connectivity and tourism appeal.
The town is also famous for its roadside pillow vendors, a distinctive feature that travelers often associate with Juapong.
Juapong hosts an annual pop culture event, the Street Jamboree, which draws thousands of visitors each year. In 2023, it was ranked as one of the most popular outdoor events in Ghana, highlighting the town’s vibrant cultural scene.
