VMA win is reward for hard work – Qwame Gaby

THE gamble that Gospel artiste, QwameGaby, took to leave his well paying job at telecommunications company, Tigo in 2015 to pursue music full time is now paying off for him.

Last Saturday, March 9, QwameGaby won the Gospel Song of the Year with his track, Fre No, released last year at the second edition of the Volta Music Awards (VMA), which came off at the main auditorium of the Ho Technical University.

Expressing his excitement to Showbiz on Monday, March 11, the artiste expressed his profound gratitude to his fans for voting for him.

“It’s been a long and winding road with many obstacles but I’m happy I got to be recognised for my hard work. This award means a lot to me particularly because I was fortunate to be appreciated in my home region,” he said.

QwameGaby was nominated in five categories; Gospel Artiste of the Year, Best Male Vocalist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Gospel Song of the Year and Best Music Video of the Year.

He said his success wouldn’t have been possible without the help and contribution of others who spent their skills and time to push him.

“This award is not just for QwameGaby but for my friends, church members, production team, producer, Kingford De General and publicist-Jonilar and the fans who used their resources to vote for me,” he noted.

The chartered marketer released his debut song, Wonderful God in 2014 and followed up with Ogyawhich had rapper, D Black on it in 2015.

The Volta Music Awards is organised by Eventic GH and aims to bring attention to artistes and music from the Volta Region.

In all, there were 29 awards handed out for various categories including Highlife Song of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year, Best Group of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award which was presented to Kwame Senyo.

Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy received an honorary award with Keeny Ice winning the ultimate prize of Artiste of the Year.
