YouTube Expands Exclusive Partnership With Coachella as 2019 Line-Up is Revealed

by | Jan 3, 2019 | Music Tech

According to YouTube, over 41 million people logged in to livestream Coachella performances on the video platform last year.  458,000 alone viewed Beyoncé’s live set on Sunday evening, the highest audience yet for a Coachella performance stream.

This year, both have expanded their partnership for Coachella 2019.

YouTube will once again serve as the exclusive livestream partner for Weekend One and Two.

In addition, YouTube Music and Premium subscribers in the US will have exclusive access to a dedicated allocation of passes for each weekend.  Passes go on sale on January 4th, 2019 at 11 am PT.  Subscribers will receive unique access codes via email to purchase passes from a dedicated member cart.  These will remain available only until supplies last.

The video platform’s Music service will also now serve as the exclusive playlist partner for Coachella.  This includes playlist integration on the Coachella site and festival app, and playlists will be easily discoverable within YouTube Music.  Fans can listen to this year’s lineup, genre-based playlists, and discover emerging acts.

During Weekend Two, the video platform will deliver a curated experience.  This includes performances, artist vignettes, and behind the scenes looks.

Coachella has also released its full line-up for the 2019 edition of the music festival.

Childish Gambino will headline the event on Friday, April 12th and the 19th.  Tame Impala will headline the event on Saturday, April 13th and the 20th.  Ariana Grande will headline the music festival on Sunday, April 14th and the 21st.

At first, it looked like organizers had made a major error for one artist, listing Gucci Mane as Gucci Gang.  The Coachella poster and website – which also reads Gucci Gang – featured only the artist and linked to Mane’s social media accounts.

Yet, organizers have recently updated the ‘error.’  The Gucci Gang, a previously unannounced trio, is composed of Gucci Mane, Lil Pump, and Smokepurpp.  The page, which now features all three artists, links to each member’s Instagram page.
