eShun put herself ahead of her competitors vying for the Unsung Artist of the Year award at the just ended VGMA Nominees Jam held at the Coronation Park in Sunyani over the weekend.
With all the outlandish performances by the Unsung artists namely AJ Lyricx, CJ Biggerman, Deon Boakye, Cina Soul, Afedzi Perry and Kwame Eugene, it took guts and amaze-balls from eShun to draw applause from the crowd (who obviously didn’t turn up to be entertained by “Unsung” acts).
Spotting her iconic goddess-like box braids, and a thigh-high afro-print wear, the budding singer slayed the “competition” with her stunning performance.
Comfortably performing with the Patch-Bay Band, the singer pulled a stand-out live performance with her popular “Fakye” hit-single busting out some hip-swaying dance moves alongside.
Surprised and carried away by the reaction of the crowd, she joyfully ran off stage even ignoring calls from event MC of the night Amanda Jissih for the methodical stage chit-chat.
You rarely find fans from open-air concerts of this nature thrilled by live-band and soul-inspired performers, and eShun’s ability to shatter the myth proves her readiness to compete on big stages with Efya, Becca, Kwabena Kwabena, Akwaboah among other top rated Ghanaian live-band performers.
From eShun’s breathtaking performance, here are all Unsung Artist performances at the 2017 VGMA Nominees Jam (Sunyani) ranked.
CJ BIGGERMAN:
Emerging from Season 4 of the popular MTN Hit-Maker series, the rapper opened the set for performances from UNSUNG nominees. His energy and eagerness to win the hearts of Sunyani fans was clearly shown. Performing his popular single (Number 1) that got him the nod for this category, CJ could only introduce his song to the fans but unable to get them to Jam with it. 5.5/10
KUAMI EUGENE:
The Lynx Entertainment signee followed next with a lip-sync performance. Performing from a well arranged performance audio file, he started off with his popular Ebeyeyie single following up with a free-style on Designer’s Panda instrumental. He pulled his amazing female choreographers on stage to perform “Show Dem”, a craft that got fans enthralled by the slick dance moves. He finally threw in his wildest card by introducing BET Award nominee MzVee on stage to finally perform his latest Hiribaba single. 6/10
AJ LYRICX:
The Afro Reggae/Dancehall singer failed to win the hearts of Sunyani fans as his performance, songs and freestyles did little to excite fans. His performance on the night was more of a Bless the Mic session than a concert performance. 4/10
AFEZI PERRY:
The Takoradi based entertainer was at his usual entertaining best on the night. His ability to control the crowd with his opening act, and aided by his popularity in the region boosted cheers from the fans. 6/10
DEON BOAKYE:
The Guy-Guy crooner performed woefully on the night, failing to bring his stage expertise to bear. Heading a group of Unsung artists who have tasted less exposure than him, his performance was absolute lightweight and just didn’t make any lasting impact. 4/10
CINA SOUL:
She broke the monotony of lip-syncing by introducing the Live-band art. Relatively unknown in faraway Brong Ahafo region, she had to go as far as beg for pardon for the language barrier between her song and indigenes. Another soul-inspired singer, she performed amazingly well with the Patch-Bay Band but for the sake of our Rate-Card being dependent on Output and CROWD REACTION, Cina Soul rates 5/10
On the night, there were other knockout performances by high profile artists which included Naccee, Samini, Medikal, MzVee, Guru, Kofi Kinatta, FlowKing Stone and others.
The VGMA Nominees Jam is a road-show organised for nominees ahead of the grand finale to justify their nomination and also rally massive support for votes.
