Ghana’s most versatile dancehall artist with incomparable vocal prowess and unparalleled writing abilities Rexford Kojo Amoah well known on stage as Shatta Rako has been crowned Song writer of the year at the just ended BASS Awards 2016.
Shatta Rako beat competition from five others including Iwan and Pattan.
He won with hit single State of Emergency. He however lost on the Record of the Year.
Other winners included Fancy Gaddam who won the discovery of the year. Stonebwoy also won the dancehall song of the year with Go Higher.
The awards show which celebrates reggae and dancehall artistes and songs that have made a huge impact on the scene for the previous year saw performances from Ahmed Mujahid Bello aka Fancy Gadam from Tamale, Jupitar, Ras Kuuku, Rudebwoy Ranking, Mz Vee, Knii Lante and A.K Songstress.
This year’s edition is the fourth since the Bass Awards was instituted in 2013 and was held at the National Theater.
