Gospel music is regarded as a means of spreading the word of God but gospel artiste, Rose Adjei , says members of the gospel music fraternity are now more engaged in competing than serving the “divine purpose”.
Speaking with Showbiz last Friday, the Adom artiste said she has observed with keen interest, the quest for some gospel artistes to seek “personal glory” than using their status to evangelise to the “sick world”.
For her, the trend isn’t encouraging since it doesn’t breed unity among the artistes. Her observation is that some are fighting for fame and popularity.
“I haven’t been in this industry for long but the few years that I have chalked, I have been surprised by many things especially how some of the artistes see others as competition.
“If we are truly Christians and believe that our calling is to inspire people through the salvation of Christ, why would anyone think another is competing with him/her when you all have the same purpose?” she queried.
For her, the perception of competition, is what has deprived many of the opportunity for many collaborations within the industry.
“How many times have gospel artistes featured one another on their songs? It’s very rare but the opposite is the trend in the secular sector. They feature themselves every time and that should be the practice within the gospel music fraternity but unfortunately, some see the ministry as competition” she said.
A mother of three, Rose Adjei who is signed onto KB Empire Entertainment made her debut in 2013 with her God’s Favour album. The eight- track album had songs such as Nyame Ye, Agya Wahwe Me So, Adom and Wose Ayeyi.
Currently, the artiste who hails from Cape Coast and married to Prophet Rexford Antwi-Adjei of Power Dominion Chapel in Sakaman says she is working on the release of her second album titled, Judgement Day by the end of the year.
“My album is made up of educative and soul- winning songs and they offer great inspiration to all Christians. The release of this album is in fulfilment of a cherished dream in my gospel musical career,” she said.
Rose Adjei hails from Cape Coast and started her musical career from the church at a young age. Her passion and interest in music inspired her to do music full time.
She has backed Obaapa Christy, Georgia Agyei, Maame Justine and many other gospel artistes in their works and the old student of Adonten Senior High School believes she has learnt enough to bless Ghanaians with her gift as well.
