Rocky Dawuni nominated for 2016 Grammy Awards Best Reggae Album

by | Dec 7, 2015 | News

From making the Billboard Top 10 Reggae Album chart to spearheading top social campaigns, the year 2015 has certainly been a good one for Ghanaian international reggae export, Rocky Dawuni. He’s ending the year on a high note with the announcement of the nominations for the 2016 Grammy Awards, which saw him grab a nod for Best Reggae Album ‘Branches of the Same Tree’.

This is history making for a Ghanaian artist, and perhaps even for an African act since Africans usually compete in the Best World Music Album category. Making the Best World Music Album category this year are the usual suspects, Angelique Kidjo and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Rocky will be competing against Jah Cure, Barrington Levy, Luciano and Morgan Heritage.

The highly anticipated event will take place February 15, 2016 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Kendrick Lamar leads the pack with a whopping eleven nominations, including ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Song of The Year’ for ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ and ‘Alright’ respectively. Taylor Swift follows with seven nods including ‘Album of the Year’, ‘Song of the Year’, and ‘Record of The Year’.
