Dansoman rapper Yaw Nanna brings back the golden age with “DC Freestyle”

Dansoman rapper Yaw Nanna brings back the golden age with “DC Freestyle”
Rapper Yaw Nanna might be new on Ghana showbiz scene, but he sounds straight out of the Dansoman Hiplife golden era with his latest freestyle titled “DC Freestyle”.

It’s no doubt that Dansoman was once the home of Hiplife and the suburb of Accra has churned out some of the best musicians the country has ever had.
From Kokoveli, Tic Tac, KK Fosu, Nana King, Ex-Doe to Samini, Dansoman was once the powerhouse of Hiplife but now, the game has totally changed making the town lose its title.

But, in order to restore its power, emerging rapper Yaw Nanna, who is the C.E.O of Gold Coast Records and also signed unto Chalimuzik, takes the bull by the horns with his latest audacious freestyle.

The 3 minutes freestyle starts with an official endorsement from the King of DC, Samini.

“Yes, yes, people out there, this is an official endorsement. Watch out for your boy, Yaw Nanna, baddest rap sensation to hit the scene. You’ve never heard anything like this in a long time,” the “My Own” hitmaker endorsed.

In the freestyle shot by Sling Shot HD, Yaw Nanna and a few Dansoman boys are seeing trekking through the town dropping hard bars after bars and calling for full support.

But the question is, can Yaw Nanna conquer and restore Dansoman’s crown?
See the full freestyle below and judge for yourself.

Shatta Wale endorses Eye Judah

The Ghanaian dancehall fraternity has proven to be one of the genres which faces much competition amidst challenges, controversies and tittle-tattle just to stay relevant. You hardly hear a top notch act promoting a fellow act who does the same genre.

But bingo!!.. The dancehall king SHATTA WALE (real name Charles Nii Armah Mensah) has broken the yoke.
In one of his itineraries of celebrating his Birthday, SHATTA WALE shared a recently released song of EYE JUDAH who is signed under FREEDOM CRY RECORDS via his Facebook page.

The fast rising dancehall artiste who goes with the tagline “Radical gingerman” is one of the few dancehall Artistes with conscious lyrical dexterity and Adept stage craft. It wasn’t a surprise to see shatta wale endorsing his work because if truth should be told without favoritism, the young chap deserve to be a household name.

I’m the best female rapper in Africa – Eno Barony

Officially signed to 2MG Music, a label owned by multiple hit producer Mix Master Garzy, Eno Baronyformerly Eno, in a recent interview declared she has finally arrived in the music business with rap music to that effect.

Eno, one of Ghana’s finest female emcees deeply rooted in rap music said she is the best and finest female rapper in Africa. Known for her pregnant lyrical prowess, energy and efficiency on a beat anytime, any day she clearly stated that most of the female acts in Africa are into singing which makes the rap game male-dominated, therefore she is blowing her horn as the best female rapper in Africa front lining and championing the female rap course.

Eno Barony, she is calling on other female acts heavily rooted in rap music to work and go hard on their rap skills as it will go long way in helping to diversify the growth of the industry and will also expose their talents to the outside world and music lovers at large. Lamenting on how the female rappers are ignored by the industry, she expressed how it actually dispirited the upcoming female rappers which makes it very difficult for them to excel doing rap music as female. This situation makes a lot of female rappers turn to become singers which in a way affect the industry’s growth.

She emphatically stated that she is nowhere near quitting or giving up on her career as the best female rapper in Africa. According to her, what Ghanaians and the world at large have seen her do were just the tip of an iceberg. Interestingly she proved music fanatics that she really means business by releasing a single with Sista Afia titled “d33d3w”, the song is making waves locally and internationally.

Seemly she is yet to truly declare her stand as the best female rapper by dropping her yet to be released album christened “Yaa Asantewaa”. She confidentially asserted that “I see myself an A-listed artist, not an underground act”. In her opinion, every artist has his or her own following in the music circle, she is playing her role in the rap genre of music and performing on many event platforms.

Drawing down the curtains, the hip-pop diva said some Ghanaian artists are doing exceptionally well with their music across the borders of the country. Such acts include Stephanie Benson, Sarkodie, Samini, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, et al. These acts are being recognized on the world stage and also winning prominent awards for the country. She pleaded that, stakeholders, promoters, DJs, bloggers and Ghanaians in general to support and help push the Ghana music, our pride to that effect, to the world. This, in turn, can get more Ghanaian acts international awards nominations, which they equally stand chances of winning many categories on the global market.

Publish breakdown of the GH¢ 2m – Gallaxy to Obuor

Some musicians in Ghana are still not convinced by Obuor’s account of how the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) used the GH¢ 2 million given to the music industry 5 years ago.

Music duo Gallaxy who are not satisfied with accounts made by MUSIGA President Bice ‘Obuor’ Osei Kuffuor, told Citi Showbiz that the President should publish a breakdown of how the money was spent.

“We doubt his figures. How can you use GH¢ 800, 000 for research, another GH¢ 800, 000 for music festival, and share the remaining for your administration? They should give us the breakdown. We want to know. They should publish it in the media for us to see,” they said.

Gallaxy added MUSIGA has disappointed the music industry by using the government fund for things that were not the industry’s priority.

“We have a lot of pressing needs like performance centres, studios and others. They have just wasted the money and must account for it into detail. They must account for every pesewa,” they noted.

Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview with Citi Showbiz, the President of the Musicians Union of Ghana explained that the union used the budget allocation judiciously.

According to him, the government granted only two of the components they presented in their proposal and so could not have used the money for all the other things the musicians are suggesting.

“…after reading through our proposal, the government said it could only grant two of our requests and those components were what the 2012 budget statement for the arts captured,” he said.

Obour further explained the GH¢ 2 million was earmarked for impact assessment of the music industry and the 2012 Music Fair, as was captured in the 2012 budget statement.

According to Obour, about GH¢ 800,000 used to pay for the research and its execution (eg. Paying research consultants) and GH¢ 800, 000 was also used for the Music Fair. About GH¢ 400, 000 was used for Institutional Strengthening and GH¢ 100, 000 was given to the Ghana Association of Phonographic Industries for their administration needs.

He said the results of the research has benefited the industry in diverse ways and is hopeful its long-term effects would manifest with the passage of time.

The GH¢ 2 million was given to the music sector in 2012 as part of government allocation in its fiscal budget.

Gallaxy, noted for hit songs like ‘Bokoboko,’ ‘Qualities,’ ‘Dab,’ ‘Gborgborvor,’ ‘Holla at Me’ and Woti Ate which takes a swipe at the MUSIGA President.

After the Release of His Debut EP 15:00, in May this year, there has never been a dull moment for The Afro-beat Star.

“Move 2 Da Vibe” visuals when released would count as DXD’s third Music Video in 2017 and it doesn’t look like he’s slowing down anytime soon.

Meet the new king of rap – Asante The Alpha

New rap artiste Asante the Alpha has just released the audio and the visuals to his hip-hop heavy tune ‘Mee Gye’.

The 4 minute plus song is just Asante staking a claim for the title as the best rapper in the country and after listening to the song you could concur that he indeed has got some point.

The song is laced with word play jabs and exceptional Twi lyricism on a great hip-hop beat that will leave you bumping for more.

The video which was directed by KP Selorm of MiPROMO Media is also eye catchy as the various scenes depict the ruggedness to which he claims the rap king title from a figure he describes but doesn’t name.

Further on ‘Mee Gye’, Asante repeats that he is the new king of rap with his style being authentic and the rest fake.

He calls out your favourite rapper by rapping about him being here to strip him of his crown.

He doesn’t stop there as he says he’s here to rule going on to even describe your favourite rapper’s tongue twisting rap style as ‘nonfa’. Nonfa is something that makes no sense.

This wouldn’t be the first time Asante has called other rappers out to his throne ascension desires.

On his hip-hop song ‘H33333r’ the rapper spoke about the ills in the industry and a whole lot. Asante rapped about there being only 7 top musicians in the music game in Ghana. Hold that’s not all.

On ‘Mee Gye’ and ‘H33333r’ Asante just cut through everyone whilst also thumping his chest as the best rapper in the country. Do well to listen to ‘Mee Gye’.
