Live In Accra -Jazz And Highlife Festival 2016

Alliance Française Accra presents the 3rd edition of the annual Live In Accra jazz and Highlife festival from 27th April to 7th May, 2016. Eight days of performances and workshops by local and international artistes

Since its initiation in April, 2014, the Live in Accra Jazz Festival has been one of the attention-grabbing jazz festivals in Ghana that brings jazz lovers and musicians; both local and international together to better appreciate the jazz music and also promote the Jazz & live music artistes.

Activities lined up to mark this year’s Jazz and Highlife festival include; master classes, concerts, film screenings and workshops in several venues.

On Wednesday, 27th April, Constant Boty, guitarist extraordinaire will be live at Republic Bar, Osu for one of the biggest outdoor concerts ever. Get ready to dance the night away.

Join us on Friday 29th April at 8pm as Alliance Francaise Accra presents the opening concert of Live in Accra with three iconic legends of highlife on its premises. These award winning musicians have thrilled Ghanaians over the years with melodious tunes. Live in Accra begins with 3 kings of highlife featuring the indefatigable A.B. Crentsil, Ben Brako and the evergreen Gyedu-Blay Ambolley. Come with your dancing shoes to dance the night away.

On Saturday 30th April, there will be a special concert at +233 Jazz Bar and Grill at 9pm.This concert in celebration of International Jazz day welcomes from Holland special guest trumpeter Teus Nobel and the indefatigable Victor Dey Quintet.

Join us again at +233 Jazz Bar and Grill on Monday, 2nd May at 8pm for a film screening-The Miles Davis Story and Miles Davis Live in Paris. This is a film and review of the life and work of Miles Davis (Master Trumpeter) as told by those who knew and worked with him. It will be followed by a screening of Miles live in a concert in Paris.

A special afro jazz concert with award winning keyboardist, Opoku Mensah and guests will also take place at the same Venue on Thursday, 5th May. The band will thrill you with melodious tunes such that you cannot stay still in your seat.

Enjoy a night of jazz funk music with the Divas on Friday 6th May at +233 Jazz Bar and Grill at 8pm. It’s the Jazz funk live jam with Ofie Kodjoe, Brenda Joyce, Faith Bekoe, and Sandra Huson backed by the Victor Dey Jazz Quartet as they take you through a Jazz Funk Journey. Come along with friends and enjoy an atmosphere of great music and food.

Live in Accra Festival ends with a closing concert with Tal Kravitz Saturday 7th May at 8pm at Alliance Française Accra-Amphitheatre.

Tal Kravitz is a musician and a singer educated at Israel’s finest music institutions. He is also a traveler who journeyed on a personal search for original tribal music in far corners of the world not yet exposed to Western civilization. Tal plays piano, harp, guitar, a variety of bagpipes, theremin, the musical saw, African percussion instruments and more. He will be sharing the stage with the flute magician, our very own Dela Botri.

Get your groove on as we experience a period of quality jazz and highlife music. It will be an unforgettable moment!
