International women’s month: Poetra Asantewa,Cina Soul,Dzyadzorm and others for exhibition at Alliance Française Accra

In the celebration of International women’s month, Alliance Française Accra is hosting exciting events organized by women in the arts and culture industry. Two of such events are an exhibition; Art As Therapy by three women artists and a night of spoken word, music and dance dubbed Shrink Session a La Paillote Takpekpe project.

Art As Therapy is an art exhibition to showcase how art serves not only as an aesthetic indulgence, but also serves as a form of therapy. Women have been using art as a therapy for years now, without even knowing it. Women always delight in each other’s existence and bond together in mutually supportive networks.

This art exhibition is inspired by ART AS THERAPY (1)the existence of women, the ways of women, the intricacies of women and everything about how women communicate. With this project these artists will educate, explore and emphasize how women use art as therapy as well as create a network of women who can share art in various forms.

The main aim of this exhibition is to demonstrate that art can serve as a bridge of empathy and can also be a way to exorcise our emotional demons.

The exhibition which will run from Wednesday, 23rd March, 2016 until 9th April and will open with a cocktail  and interactive session with the artists; Sena Ahadji, Teresa Meka and Poetra Asantewa on 23rd March , Alliance Francaise Accra Exhibition Hall at 6:30pm.

They want the audience to expect meaningful and soulful art from 3 different artists using different mediums; ceramics, oil paint and photography.

 

For La Paillote Takpekpe this month is a show titled; Shrink Sessions which echoes the exhibition; Art As Therapy.

Shrink Sessions is a music, poetry and dance show to demonstrate how women use art as a form of bonding. The purpose of Shrink Sessions is to celebrate women and to portray the various ways in which women use art as a form of therapy and bonding through poetry, music, dance and art.

The show will comprise of spoken word, music and dance with talented and startling performers namely; Cina Soul, Poetra Asantewaa, Dzyadzorm and Phoebe Sey. The event takes place on Wednesday, 30th March, 2016 at Alliance Francaise Accra, La Paillote Stage at 7:30pm.

The audience should expect great performances from great artists, a good night and a place to bond and network with other women. A night of music, dance and poetry about women, for women and from women.
