Jphinga is undoubtedly one of the fast rising Reggae and Dancehall musician from Ghana that is working tremendously to become an icon that has given a much recognition to his genre and kind of music globally true the production of good and timeless music. Born Jonathan W. K. Segbefia Jr. in the Accra Suburb of
Dansoman, but hails from the Volta Region. Growing up Jphinga lived in both Ashaiman a suburb of Accra considered as the hub of music, where 2015 BET Awards ‘Best International Act –Africa’ stonebwoy was born and grow and Volta region respectively. His ability to grow in both environment has equally contributed to his musical career.
As the 7th born of 8 children predominantly raised by his father, He defy all odds to complete his basic education at Manhean Presby Primary and Manhean TMA 1, both of Tema New Town respectively. A graduate of Chemu Senior Secondary School in Tema where he studied ‘Visual Arts’ with major interest in Graphic design. He has well vested skills in Writing and composition which does on the side to survive.
He was destined for a career in music so he was an avid lover, peaking his interest at a tender age in life. Before he could understand the lyrics, he was belting out the lyrics and developing an understanding for musical arrangement. With dad’s career path keeping the family on the move, relocating multiple times forced him to master many of the local languages as means of adjusting. This has placed him on a pedestal as one of those artists that can interchangeable switch between English, Ga Twi and
Ewe when singing.
As with most artists of today, his first recording experience was with that of a cassette tape where he would playback his lyrics, perpetuate his mastery of the craft. This grew abundantly during his time in high school as a mate will drum the desks forming beats for him to sing along with.
This was a daily routine that became part of him. He then graduated to a
deeper love of music, taking it more serious than his academic work. He was part of a group called EP Unit which entertained students with their fresh lyrics during all break times and Entertainment at school. After High School, he made the conscious decision to pursue music full time.
Jphinga has struggled on his ascend and emergence onto the music scene. Countless auditions were in vain including Mentor 5, Vodafone Icons mixed edition, King of the Mic and MTN Project Fame. Finally, it was Hitz Discovery that realized his talent and he commendably was able to make it to the finals.
On featuring and collaborations, Jphinga has worked with Awal and Donzy all of International Award winning rapper Sarkodie’s Rap University. In recent times, ‘Bullit Fi Bad mind’ a Dancehall song that features BHIMNation headliner,BET and 2015 VGMA Artiste of the year Stonebwoy and his label mate EyeJudah has been rated one of the top five songs that will remain relevant in the years to come. A projection by Ghanaian Brand Promotion and Digital Marketing company Showbiz GH that equally means Jphinga is by far one of the top rising artiste from Ghana doing good music.
Internationally, he has collaborated with Jamaica’s sensational artiste DiThree, Ms Staks from Alabama (America) and has voiced on lots of riddims internationally.
Jphinga was featured ‘Rhythms’ which was previously aired on Ghana Television and has performed big stages that has seen a huge number of patrons attending.
He is still in the studio working on loads of songs and also available to work with good and powerful artiste who has noticed his versatility and ability to vent out good music. His melodic dancehall style will feed your soul with good music as the only food for the soul.
